Organic, gluten free and with spelt
Most Breads, Rolls and Cakes from Abhi's Bread are made with organic ingredients, are gluten free and contain spelt flour.
Organic bread is made using organic flour which is grown without the use of GMO’s (genetically modified organisms), harmful chemicals (insecticides/pesticides/herbicides) and/or food additives and preservatives. Organic or Bio-dynamic farming systems ensure the health of the soil in which we grow our food and in turn the health of the food we eat.
Gluten is a protein substance that remains in a cereal when the starch is removed and is commonly found in wheat, rye and barley. Gluten is unsuitable for some people as it can be difficult to digest and cause serious illness in those people affected by Celiac disease. This means that most breads, cereals and flour based products contain gluten and can be undesirable. However not all grains contain gluten. Gluten free grains include rice, quinoa and amaranth and many desserts can have a flour substitute which is commonly almond meal. Abhi's bread has a variety of breads and other items which are gluten reduced or completely gluten free.
Spelt is an ancient grain dating back more than 6000 years and is still in its original and un-hybridised state. Although it is a relative of wheat it is gaining popularity as those who generally are intolerant to wheat do not react adversely to spelt. Spelt has a sweet and nutty flavor and contains a highly water soluble fibre which is easily assimilated into the body. It is an excellent substitute for all baking requirements.
